DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry went to researchers Henri B.
Kagan and Kenso Soai for their work in asymmetric organic synthesis.\n\nLi
fe is built from molecules\, yet living systems exhibit a remarkable prefe
rence for one molecular handedness over its mirror image. How did this asy
mmetry emerge\, and how did it become embedded in the chemistry of life? \
n\nJoin Sankaranarayanan Rajan for a lecture exploring the fascinating int
erface between chemistry and biology\, tracing the connections between mol
ecular chirality\, the origins of life\, and the evolution of biological s
ystems. Drawing on insights from Nobel Prize-winning discoveries in chemis
try and contemporary research\, he will examine how nature achieves molecu
lar selectivity and fidelity through mechanisms that distinguish between s
eemingly similar molecular alternatives. The lecture will offer a glimpse
into the fundamental principles that underpin life's molecular organisatio
n.\n\nThis lecture is organised in collaboration with Infosys Science Foun
 dation.

DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine went to research
ers Karl Deisseroth\, Peter Hegemann and Georg Nagel for their work on opt
ogenetics. Optogenetics is the technique of using genetically expressed li
ght-sensitive proteins to control the activity of brain cells. \n\nJoin U
pinder Singh Bhalla for a lecture tracing the story of how very basic rese
arch into the light responsiveness of a single-celled plant micro-organism
led to the discovery of light-sensitive proteins that allow current to fl
ow into a cell. Learn how this was then developed into a powerful tool for
studying the brain\, and possibly for therapeutic purposes in the future.
Come discover the path of development of optogenetics\, both as a triumph
of basic science\, and also as a way to tell the story of many people who
contributed fundamentally but were left aside when the prizes rolled in.\

DESCRIPTION:The 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature went to Anne Carson. \n\nJoi
n Srilata Krishnan for a talk about Carson’s work and what writers and a
rtists can learn from it. Carson’s training was in the classics\, which
spurred in her a wide-ranging interest in comparative literature\, anthrop
ology\, history and the arts. Hers is a quintessentially interdisciplinary
mind\, and her work feels like jewels studded with the gemstones of ancie
nt Greek and Latin literature (Sappho\, Catullus\, Stesichorus\, for insta
nce) and of writers such as Virginia Woolf\, Keats and Gertrude Stein.\n\n
Formally\, her work may be best described as cross-genre. It is the spirit
of playfulness and enquiry that drives all of Carson’s work\, making ea
ch of her books different from the others. Her playfulness precludes neith
er depth nor rigour\, as borne out by every single work of hers. \n\nAs a
writer\, Srilata has learnt a lot about craft from Carson and will be shar
ing the subtle ways in which reading Carson helped shape her own writing.\
